Imbolc

Happy Imbolc, Happy Saint Brigid's Day, Happy Candlemas , Happy Groundhog Day.......

Light some candles, clean your altars, eat a feast!
We are now halfway between the winter and the spring equinox. Spring is nearly upon us. Now is the time to make sure you have plenty of food in your pantry to last until winters end. Also right now is a great time for clearing out not only household items but also mental roadblocks. This is a great time for setting goals. You can watch them take bloom with the coming spring.

Card Reading

Card Reading Spell

From the earth,
 to the sea.
From the sky
to the trees.
Guide me please.

A great little spell I have been using for over 20 years when giving card readings. I created this out of my need of positive intention and ritual. It has served me well. I pass it along to you.

Wash Away Worries

Wash away My Worries Spell

For this spell you will need one white candle and one crystal. Draw yourself a deep bath and climb inside. Light the candle and place the crystal in the water with you. Repeat the saying three times. Visualize your worries and stressors melting into the bathwater. Let the warm water relax you. When you exit the bath leave the crystal in the bathtub until the water has drained away. Be sure you rinse the crystal.

Water wash away my worries please,
Take them far away,
To a place where they can do no harm,
And take my stress today.

Binding Spells With Love

Binding the Spells With Intention

Words in spells can be changed when necessary, but some spells wording can not. They can sometimes be manipulated into something else. Poetry can be tossed and tied into something beautiful and strong. Intent is EVERYTHING. Most spells I find work best if bound by love. Helping someone heal, finding a lost item, card readings all work better for me if "so motte it be" turns into "with love from me". When creating a new spell remember what intentions lie behind it. Remember to bind the spell with those thoughts, they are even more powerful then the words you whisper.

Winter Spellwork

Winter Spell
Create a small charm bag. Place rosemary, cinnamon and a snip of an evergreen tree. Tie it closed with a green ribbon. Place on Hearth or Altar saying:

Winter Goddess I honor you,
Keep me safe and warm.
Quench the thirst of the earth,
And protect me from your storm.

January can be cold and dark. This little spell is one I do when a bad storm is upon us. It brings me peace and calm and the worry of our outside animals lessen. Soon Imbolc will be upon us and then Spring will begin showing herself with flare. Savor the respite. Soon it will be time for working the earth and growing food for the ones we love. Savor the early dark nights and try following the patterns of the seasons. Sleep when it gets dark and rise when the sun wakes the earth. Magic happens when you listen and heed the instructions given by our Mother.

Winter Rituals

There are many winter rituals I partake in. Here are a few of my most treasured.

Finding color within Jack Frost's work.

Scrying
Scrying is the practice of looking into a translucent ball or other material (water etc.) with the belief that things can be seen, such as spiritual visions, and for purposes of divination or fortune-telling

Searching for footpaths.

What do you do to keep your heart warm through the cold respite months?

Kitchen Magic

Kitchen Magic
With love and intent,
 This is made for you,
may your belly and your heart be filled,
through and through.

This simple spell is one I say daily while preparing food for the ones I love. Spices laid out are for gingerbread. May the spell increase the food you make and shorten the time you spend making it.

Winter Altar

"An altar is any structure upon which offerings such as sacrifices are made for religious purposes. Altars are usually found at shrines, and they can be located in templeschurches and other places of worship. Today they are used particularly in ChristianityBuddhismHinduismShintoTaoism, as well as in Neopaganism and Ceremonial MagicJudaism used such a structure until the destruction of the Second Temple. Many historical faiths also made use of them, including Greek and Norse religion."

My Winter Altar or Yule Altar is in a state of constant change. Just like the winter I am experiencing now. Some days more light is added for warmth and extra words are added for encouragement in these cold dark days of respite from the gardens. What is on your Altar?
